School in MEXICO

2.3.10 We put the boys in school Wednesday of last week. Which is a joke in itself as the school we wanted to put the kids in was too full & didn't have any books for them, so we were forced to put them in a school farther away and definitely less organized. The principal was never anywhere to be found. The day we finally got them enrolled we had to go to the school 4 different times that day for various reason. It was bothersome indeed. So the school hours are as follows: P.M. schedule Mon-Fri 2pm-6pm. That's FOUR hours of school a day with a 30 minute recess at 4:30. They were there half the day Wednesday, all day Thursday and 30 min short of a full day Friday. It is now Wednesday of the following week & they haven't been back to school since. WHY? You ask... because apparently Mexicans don't go to school on bad weather days! You're probably thinking to yourself, how bad can the weather be in a city that is renown for having perfect weather all year long??? It was RAINING. That's it. Just rain. No 80 mile per hour wind, no hail... just the rain with accompanying dark clouds above. And they don't tell you there's no school. You just have to show up & when you realize the gates are still locked & there are no teachers present, you pack your kids back up & go home. So Monday, they didn't have school for some reason unknown to us. It wasn't raining this day. Tuesday we took them to school & brought them right back home because no one was there. We then called Lucia to see if she knew why there was no school & she said that when it is cold & rainy like this, they don't have school. WHAT!?!?! It's just rain for crying out loud! We've come to realize the twins will never learn Spanish if this is how they operate here! So here we are at home, it's been raining for about 3 days straight now. Keep in mind these homes have NO heating system at all so I've been sitting in bed all day freezing my fingers & toes off. I normally love the rain but when I can't warm up my crying little toes, the rain me no likey!

About Us

Jocotepec, Jalisco, Mexico
We are a family of 5 consisting of a Mom & Dad, a set of twins and a 4 year old. With the exception of Javier, Jaden, Jorden, Corbin and I were Utah born and raised. Javier was born in California and has lived in MANY places including Mexico. Javier is a social butterfly (for lack of a more masculine word) while I am more reserved, because of this I think we make a good fit. We are doing our best to raise our three sons as well-rounded, respectful individuals who will prove to be responsible and HAPPY when grown. We like to make the most of life. We LOVE traveling & seeing new places! Javier has made magical things happen for this family and I love him for that (even though MY Mom may not.)
